WHY CHOOSE FLOOR BOYS
All About Hardwood
While all wood floors are beautiful, they are not all the same. Today’s most popular hardwood flooring options include a number of different species, such as hickory, maple, or oak, that span all color options, hardness, and price points. Whether you want your hardwood floor to be simple or something more dramatic that makes an impact, we carry the types of hardwood flooring that will meet your needs.
HARDWOOD
Solid vs. Engineered Hardwood
At Floor Boys, we offer solid, engineered, and epic engineered hardwood in planks ranging from 2 ¼” to 12” wide to meet the needs of all of our customers. But whats the difference between these? Here is a little background.
Solid hardwood is beautiful and simple. It is made of a single board of wood and, for many needs, it is an excellent choice. In contrast, engineered and epic engineered hardwood is constructed of several thin layers of hardwood stacked across the grain, which adds strength. If you are installing below grade, it is important to check out the engineered options.

Hardwood floors will retain value better and boost resale value more than all other flooring options.
Generally speaking, installing hardwood flooring is not DIY-friendly. Many power and hand tools are needed to properly install your own hardwood flooring. These tools include saws, leveling tools, compressors, nail guns, sanders, buffers, and adhesives. You not only need to possess those tools, but you have to know how to use them to properly install your hardwood flooring. Purchasing hardwood flooring is a major investment and one that is worth hiring professionals to do the installation correctly.
There is some definite variance in the durability of hardwood species. Each wood product has a Janka hardness rating that provides context as to the hardness and inherent durability of various types of hardwood. The Janka rating should be used as a resource for your hardwood decision-making. Hickory, birch, and maple can all provide solid hardwood durability for your home.
Hardwood flooring should last from 25 to 30 years without requiring much work. Some hardwood flooring may last 50 to 100 years if maintained well. By sanding, refinishing, and providing daily care to your hardwood flooring, your floors will continue to look great and perform well for many years. Hardwood floors are very durable.
